Nikola Madzirov is a Macedonian poet, editor, and translator from Strumica, born to a family of Balkan War refugees. His poetry explores themes of movement, identity, and cultural geography, often reflecting a sense of escape and transience. He is the author of several acclaimed collections, including Locked in the City (1999), Somewhere Nowhere (1999), and Relocated Stone (2007). His selected poems were published in Remnants of Another Age (2011), with a foreword by Carolyn Forché. Madzirov’s work has been translated into over thirty languages, earning him prestigious awards such as the Hubert Burda European Poetry Award and the Miladinov Brothers poetry prize. He has held international residencies and served as Macedonian coordinator for Lyrikline and poetry editor for Blesok. He lives in Macedonia.
